Boat Cleaning
Many boat owners want to keep their boats in good condition and protect their investment.
Here are a few tips to keeping your vessel in tip top condition. Rinse with Fresh Water
Give your boat a fresh-water wash down after operating in salt water. Make sure to completely remove the salt residue that can eventually eat away at the boat’s finish. Flush engine and drive package
On trailered or dry stored boats it is so important to flush the salt from the cooling system with fresh water as per the manufacturers Owners Manual. Following an external wash of the outboard or sterndrive, “Corrosion Inhibitors” can be sprayed on engines and drives as recommended by the manufacturer. Wash the Outer structure of boat
Using a soft sponge and biodegradable “Marine Wash N Wax”, wash and rinse in small portions the exterior fibreglass of the boat, including deck, sides and hardtops. Canvas Covers and Biminis can be rinsed and washed with suitable fabric cleaners. Clears can be cleaned and polished with special clear plastic cleaners. Dry interior of boat
Thoroughly dry the boat with a soft, dry cloth. Always endeavor to dry the cockpit and interior of the boat before closing the boat up, or refitting covers. If weather or time does not permit, air and dry the boat as soon as possible. Moisture and condensation trapped inside a boat causes mold and mildew to accumulate on upholstery and rust and corrosion to develop on mechanical and electrical parts. |
Waxing your Boat
Applying a good quality wax to the gelcoat of your boat will maintain the colour and shine and prevent the fibreglass from oxidising. Boat wax makes cleaning of your boat easier and makes it harder for grime, grease and algae to stick to the fiberglass. In our harsh Queensland climate waxing at least twice a year is recommended. Clean Windows and Protect the Upholstery
Clean the windows using a commercial cleaning solution, or vinegar and water. Treat all vinyl with a commercial vinyl cleaners and treatments to protect and preserve your boat’s upholstery. |
